Intelligent parking system from MSR-Traffic provide economical and sustainable parking solutions in the parking garage of a London branch of an international food company.
On the way to smart and sustainable mobility, technological innovations in parking management are of central importance. Especially in urban areas, the parking management plays a decisive role, as parking space is becoming progressively scarce due to the continuously growing volume of traffic. In order to make optimal utilization of the parking area, parking guidance systems are increasingly being applied to guide car drivers safely and quickly to the next available parking space.
For this purpose, ultrasonic sensors and LED matrix displays are employed to control the parking traffic in the newly built parking garage of an international food company in London.
How is the parking system from MSR-Traffic applied?
The LED matrix displays at the entrances and the ultrasonic sensors with integrated, different status LEDs at each parking space inform the car driver about the current parking space capacity in the underground car park and immediately guide him to the next available parking space. The parking system is coordinated using the ParkGard® Control Center (PGCC) software from MSR-Traffic.
Solution from MSR-Traffic for smart parking
The project in the UK uses ultrasonic sensors, level controllers and the ParkGard® Control Center (PGCC) software.
The ultrasonic sensors serve for detection of the occupancy status of the parking spaces and for single space detection. The LED display and the sensor are located in the housing.
A special highlight – Thanks to the latest technology, the LED display can be set in up to 16.8 million colours. The sensor is mounted above the parking space either centrally or at the front near the traffic lane. The information is transmitted to the superordinate level controller via the serial interface.
Based on the principle of the ultrasonic distance measurement, the sensor determines a reflection image. The result of the measurement is then compared with a reference, evaluated using a complex algorithm and transmitted to the control centre via the serial data line.
The occupancy status of the parking space is evaluated and displayed by the sensor itself so ensuring an “emergency operation” even if the central control fails.

Another interesting feature of the parking system
Due to an optional audio module, it is also possible to make announcements such as greetings to customers or information about the current occupancy of the parking spaces.
MSR-Traffic was commissioned with this exciting project in August 2022. The commissioning and acceptance with the customer were carried out personally by Frank Würz, COO MSR-Traffic.
